ARTIST STATEMENT

purposeful objects

my current work focuses on crafted design, exploring the complementary qualities of ceramics, metal and wood through form, texture and colour to create hand made objects with a purpose. By joining and assembling components of different materiality, I strive to form unexpected juxtapositions and dialogues between elements to create functional pieces all within the rigors of design.

About CHRISTOPHER WRIGHT

Christopher is a British-born designer with extensive design experience in Europe and North America. With a Masters of Design from London’s Royal College of Art, his career journey has taken him to practice design in London, Paris, Montreal and Toronto. Product design, interior design, architecture and branding comprise the design vocabulary of his collaborations with clients and projects range in scale from the design of hand-held items to large architectural interiors.

After being actively involved in the discipline of design for more than 50 years, Christopher has come full circle to where it all started, shifting focus back to artisanal design as a means of self expression. He is returning to the physicality of craft, letting the act of making shape his vision in collaboration with skilled artisans.
“design isn’t just about what we see and experience, but how it’s made”, a blending of contemporary design and artisanal skill, that manifests the deep connection between designer, maker, process, and final form, producing purposeful pieces as one-offs or limited editions.
