ARTIST STATEMENT

Eden’s sculptures at first glance appear quiet and placid, but upon closer inspection, her narratives and titles reveal a deeper darker side. She explores materials utilizing her knowledge and skills from various sources. Figures appear in most of her work focusing on human relationships, resiliency, her search for purpose, and maintaining balance.

EDEN BENDER
About EDEN BENDER

Eden Bender is an established Toronto-based sculptor and painter. She was selected to work as a technician in the university’s fine arts’ sculpture studio. While spending time sculpting she was honored to win assistant to a visiting international sculptor. Eden continued in an independent studies program in sculpture and during that time aided in the building of the graduate program studios. Eden graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

She has received numerous awards including The Lindsay Morris Memorial Award, The Brain Project People’s Choice Award, Odette Sculpture Award, Ontario Arts Council Award, and the Gardiner Museum Award. She is in multiple publications including Beautiful Home by Studio Pyramid, Objekt International; 500 Figures in Clay, Lark Books; Beneath the Surface, Potpourri – the Gardiner Museum magazine; and The Black and White of Eden Bender, Fusion Magazine. Eden’s work was internationally exhibited at the Stricoff Gallery, New York; Art Basel, Switzerland; Warsaw Poland International Ceramic Exhibition, Poland; Master Class St. Petersburg, Russia; and The International Art Fair, Toronto.
