Janice Cormier is a ceramic artist originally from New Brunswick and currently based in Montreal / Tiohtiá:ke. Her work consists of hand built ceramic vessels and sculpture that explore themes of human connection, empathy, and sense of belonging to Nature and place. In her process, she collects foraged clays, minerals, or other natural materials that she often incorporates into her works. The resulting forms and tactile surfaces are reminiscent of natural landscape elements from the places she has called Home – Atlantic Canada, Northern California, and Québec.
Janice first completed degrees in psychology and health sciences before pursuing ceramics. She began studying and working in ceramics while living in northern California. Her training included self–directed study, workshops, and mentorships with established ceramic artists and sculptors. She has participated in gallery exhibitions and juried art events in Canada and the United States.
