After more than five decades working in design, Christopher Wright has returned to making as a way of thinking. His current works emerge from a close engagement with material, process, and use — allowing the act of making to shape form rather than beginning with a fixed idea. Design, in this context, is not only about what is seen, but how something comes into being.
Working with a materials palette of wood, metal, and ceramic, Wright explores how these materials relate through structure, surface, and colour. Forms are simple and functional, with construction often visible, emphasizing clarity, restraint, and efficiency. Each piece is designed to sit comfortably within daily life while maintaining a strong physical and sculptural presence.

Crafted from Canadian-sourced Douglas fir and made in Toronto in collaboration with Nick Day Design, the works pair wood and ceramic hardware in unexpected ways. Each piece is designed as part of a cohesive ensemble, reflecting a contemporary vernacular approach: simple forms, efficient use of materials, and construction that reveals how it is made.

My work focuses on crafted design, exploring the complementary qualities of ceramics, metal and wood through form, texture and colour to create hand made objects with a purpose. By joining and assembling components of different materiality, I strive to form unexpected juxtapositions and dialogues between elements to create functional pieces all within the rigors of design.

All Vessels + Sticks orders are packaged by the artists themselves and shipped directly to you, the collector. This process allows us to reduce overall shipping costs as well as our carbon footprint.
Local or international charges vary depending on the location of the artist and the collector. Please note that multiple shipping charges will apply if you order works from more than one artist.
All ceramic artworks are ready to ship. Please allow 1 to 3 days for an order to be processed and the artwork to be prepared for shipping. If an artist is away, longer shipping times will apply and adjusted timing will be indicated on the artwork page.
Shipping Rates
Shipping rates are calculated based on the size and weight of the package, domestic or international carrier service requirements and origination and destination address. An estimate will be provided upon checkout. Some artworks may require additional packing, handling or special shipping arrangements. If this is the case, you will be directed to a member of our team to receive a shipping estimate and to coordinate details.
