Blue Box with Copper Wire and Garnets

$1,504.00
Exhibition Submission Statement

Blue Box with Copper Wire and Garnets combines ceramic form with the tactile intricacy of woven copper wire and the richness of garnets. Its deep blue “woven” porcelain surface evokes depth and mystery, a vessel that both conceals and reveals. The copper weave functions as both structure and ornament, binding the form while suggesting fragility and resilience. Garnets, with their associations of strength, love and protection, bring an elemental weight to the work. Together, these elements transform the box into more than a container; it becomes a vessel for memory, emotion, and the unseen energies of what it might hold within.

Dimensions: 6"W x 6"H x 6"D

Material: Porcelain, copper wire, garnets

Artist Statement

My porcelain “woven” boxes explore the vessel as both a physical container and a keeper of intangible things. Built by hand and bound in “woven” porcelain skins with wire, beads, or fibre, each box holds space, yet its contents remain unseen. This tension between visibility and concealment is central to my work- what is held may be precious, fragile or entirely imagined.

The act of “weaving” transforms the box into more than the structure; it becomes a record of time, labour, and touch. The crossing of each slip trail is a gesture of care, binding disparate elements into a unified whole. The surfaces suggest protection and resilience, while the form itself- with its closed, cube-like body- resists the open display of traditional vessels.

In reimagining the vessel through this format, I invite the viewers to consider not only what is held, but how it is held. The “woven” box is at once a boundary and a threshold: it contains, guards, and invites speculation. It speaks of the human impulse to preserve, to conceal, and to imbue objects and spaces with meaning far beyond their physical purpose.

These are vessels for memory, for possibility, and for the quiet, invisible weight of the things we choose to keep.
