In this series, Loren returns to the botanical references that have long informed her work, looking more closely at the internal structures of plants. She is interested in how what exists inside a living form supports and determines what we see on the outside.
The artist explores this relationship repeatedly, building each vessel slowly by hand and allowing one form to inform the next. The repetition becomes a kind of meditation, with both the form and idea evolving through the process.
Smaller in scale than much of her previous work, the vessels are made from stoneware that Loren stains herself, introducing colour beyond her predominantly neutral palette. A fluid flux glaze on the interior draws the eye inward, reinforcing the relationship between inside and outside.

ARTIST STATEMENT
In my work I integrate symbolic, visual, tactile and spiritual values – blending form, function and meaning. My work resonates with light, sound, pattern and texture and includes pieces that are created by coiling and hand-building as well as specialized ranges of thrown work. Once built, the surface of the vessels are carved, sculpted or engraved with intricate patterns and symbols that combine the geometric and organic. I have also created a series of porcelain lighting made by piercing, slip-trailing and resisting intricate patterns through which the light resonates. There are many diversities and extremes that I try and hold and balance within my life and work. At times, white porcelain and black basalt clay; the closed, lidded and the open form; the tiny and the large. Within them all, they hold the silence and meditation of the making, the time, the process and the attention to detail. I make vessels because containers are about potential. My focus is on the space-in-between; defined spaces of emptiness making room for something to be held.

All Vessels + Sticks orders are packaged by the artists themselves and shipped directly to you, the collector. This process allows us to reduce overall shipping costs as well as our carbon footprint.
Local or international charges vary depending on the location of the artist and the collector. Please note that multiple shipping charges will apply if you order works from more than one artist.
All ceramic artworks are ready to ship. Please allow 1 to 3 days for an order to be processed and the artwork to be prepared for shipping. If an artist is away, longer shipping times will apply and adjusted timing will be indicated on the artwork page.
Shipping Rates
Shipping rates are calculated based on the size and weight of the package, domestic or international carrier service requirements and origination and destination address. An estimate will be provided upon checkout. Some artworks may require additional packing, handling or special shipping arrangements. If this is the case, you will be directed to a member of our team to receive a shipping estimate and to coordinate details.

International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes incurred when the delivery reaches your destination. The charges of import duties and taxes must be paid by the recipient of the order.
