This series of soda-fired vessels reflects a practice grounded in curiosity, experimentation, and a deep connection to place. Built through years of self-directed study and hands-on exploration, the artist's work embraces the inherent unpredictability of the firing process, where flame, atmosphere, and vaporized soda interact with the clay to create surfaces that cannot be fully controlled.
Subtle shifts in colour, texture, and movement emerge through firing. While rooted in the traditions of functional pottery, the work moves beyond utility alone, inviting attention to the material qualities of clay and the transformative nature of the kiln.
Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and waterways of northwestern Ontario and Manitoba, this series embodies a balance between intention and chance, craftsmanship and discovery. The resulting forms celebrate the unique character that emerges when material, process, and environment work together.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice is rooted in a continuous dialogue between ornamentation and decoration, working to strike a balance between structure and spontaneity. Whether in drawing, sculpture, or ceramics, my goal is to bring fluidity into the stationary - infusing movement and traces of process that bring each piece to life.
My work is situated within a collection of visual memories, blending personal and fictional narratives I have gathered throughout my life. It draws from the intricate details of my grandmothers’ homes, alongside speculative imagery rooted in imagined and local ecologies. The ornamentation in my work references the curves of animal anatomy, the sweeping lines of landscapes, and the subtle textures of the wilderness. The decorative elements, by contrast, are informed by ornate furniture, translating those delicate details in ways that are often felt rather than overtly seen.
Having built my foundation making functional ware for local farmers’ markets, I carry a deep awareness of,and gratitude for,the people who live alongside my work every day. My family, friends, and community provide the supportive bedrock that allows me to create freely. Knowing that these pieces find a place in people’s lives is incredibly meaningful; this quiet connection gives me the grounding to remain true to my voice while continuing to explore new ideas and take on ambitious, challenging projects that push my practice forward.
