Glazed stoneware ceramic. 

These wall mounted stoneware paintings follow on from my ‘Stone’ series of smooth, thrown hollow forms. I was looking to put a bit more gesture and expression into my throwing style and to disrupt that perfect symmetry - a re-visit to my earlier practice as a painter. The glazes are painted on - usually a bad idea! -but I was hoping the kiln would give me unexpected melts and contaminations. The results have a kind of elemental, cosmic appearance, either interstellar or microbial in nature.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Nicola Tassie describes herself as a potter but her work incorporates thrown tableware, wall based projections, and large scale sculpture installations. Rather than sitting in opposition to each other these disparate strands coexist in a continuous loop of exchange, evolution and inquiry.  Ideas of utility exist as both concept and practice. Her Lighting series consists of lamps as sculptures, and as functioning designs. Surface effects and processes transition seamlessly from a sturdy jug onto a wall-mounted abstract ‘clay canvas’. Domestic ware forms are amalgamated into composite sculptures that are either stacked into tall multi-glazed towers or sit horizontally, echoing landscaped pathways or ‘stone walls’, literally and figuratively elevating everyday objects into totemic form. At the core her practice is a reimagining of the ordinary into the extraordinary. By synthesizing historical references, domestic objects and experimental processes, she asks what it means to work with the ancient medium of ceramics in the 21st century.

 All Vessels + Sticks orders are packaged by the artists themselves and shipped directly to you, the collector. This process allows us to reduce overall shipping costs as well as our carbon footprint.  

Local or international charges vary depending on the location of the artist and the collector.  Please note that multiple shipping charges will apply if you order works from more than one artist. 

All ceramic artworks are ready to ship. Please allow 1 to 3 days for an order to be processed and the artwork to be prepared for shipping.  If an artist is away, longer shipping times will apply and adjusted timing will be indicated on the artwork page.

Shipping Rates

Shipping rates are calculated based on the size and weight of the package, domestic or international carrier service requirements and origination and destination address. An estimate will be provided upon checkout.  Some artworks may require additional packing, handling or special shipping arrangements. If this is the case, you will be directed to a member of our team to receive a shipping estimate and to coordinate details. 

Taxes and Duties

International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes incurred when the delivery reaches your destination. The charges of import duties and taxes must be paid by the recipient of the order.  Unfortunately, we have no control over these charges and we have no way of knowing what the charges will be in advance. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
