Sketches in Glaze No. 14

The works in this series draw from two sources of interest, the artist's material research in glaze chemistry and the world of botanical illustration. The tiles were made as part of a larger series that was divided into three groups; a darker, heavier grouping inspired by fungal, microbial matter that live in the soil, a lighter brightly coloured group showing more floral and seed pod forms and a middle group with more emphasis on leaves stems etc. although there was plenty of crossover between the groups. The two panels presented here are from the darker, heavier grouping inspired by the soil.

The artist has always been inspired by the ways in which natural forms, usually plants, have historically been abstracted, stylized, and rendered as pattern and flattened image within various decorative arts traditions. 

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always been inspired by the ways in which natural forms, usually plants, have historically been abstracted, stylized, and rendered as pattern and flattened image within various decorative arts traditions. While I look to botanical specimens and depictions of natural forms as a source of inspiration, I often incorporate human-made objects that, through interpretive drawing, are reimagined as plant-like forms. These collected objects are usually everyday unremarkable things that over time work their way into my consciousness.

 Shipping + Insurance

 All Vessels + Sticks orders are packaged by the artists themselves and shipped directly to you, the collector. This process allows us to reduce overall shipping costs as well as our carbon footprint.  

Local or international charges vary depending on the location of the artist and the collector.  Please note that multiple shipping charges will apply if you order works from more than one artist. 

All ceramic artworks are ready to ship. Please allow 1 to 3 days for an order to be processed and the artwork to be prepared for shipping.  If an artist is away, longer shipping times will apply and adjusted timing will be indicated on the artwork page.

Shipping Rates

Shipping rates are calculated based on the size and weight of the package, domestic or international carrier service requirements and origination and destination address. An estimate will be provided upon checkout.  Some artworks may require additional packing, handling or special shipping arrangements. If this is the case, you will be directed to a member of our team to receive a shipping estimate and to coordinate details. 

Taxes and Duties

International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes incurred when the delivery reaches your destination. The charges of import duties and taxes must be paid by the recipient of the order.  Unfortunately, we have no control over these charges and we have no way of knowing what the charges will be in advance. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
