This practice of relinquishing control and forced detachment from a final destination or outcome allows ceramic artists to focus on the magic of creation and experimentation. A practice that I really needed to embrace at the time, and still do!
In an attempt to find inspiration and joy in the present moment, I began an Instagram account (Vessels + Sticks) to document daily the unique and beautiful ceramic works that I was discovering through a myriad of sources. This practice quickly morphed into a passion for curating contemporary ceramics and showcasing them together in one place. Shining a light on the field of ceramics and providing a source of inspiration for collectors, art and design enthusiasts, as well as other ceramic artists, has been an absolute pleasure, and incredibly rewarding.
In addition to the aesthetics of the works, I’m truly inspired by the individual stories that make each artist’s approach unique, as well as the common human experiences that bind us all. It was precisely the work, and these stories, that motivated me to launch www.vesselsandsticks.com. Hearing artists talk about making career changes to focus on their art, launching their small businesses, and creating partnerships, provided me with the motivation I needed to get going. And I’m so excited to share this platform with a fantastic group of artists and to provide you with access to their beautiful ceramic works.
