Crumbling

Exhibition Submission Statement

The piece is a five angled vessel with chipped uneven upper edge, made of light brown dotted clay. On the outside, the vessel is covered by a gum printed photograph I took of an antique half destroyed building. The shape of the vessel reminds of the shape of a building, and the clay colour matches the colour of old building stones.

The main theme I explore in this piece is the vulnerability of Home as a safe vessel containing life and memories. Once firm, build from solid stone, filled with human voices, then time and circumstances leave a broken house opened up to the sky.

The vessel, like the home, attempts to contain. In my artwork I created a vessel that tries to hold, and doesn’t fully succeed.

Dimensions: 7”H x 8.6”W x 8”D

Material: Stoneware and gum print photo

Artwork ships: beginning october 22nd

Artist Statement

Tamarin Makarov, based in Tel Aviv, combines photography and ceramics in her artworks using unique methods such as Decals and Gum Print to merge the image into the piece of ceramics. Tamarin has developed and refined an artistic technique - Gum Print - to get an incredibly sharp image made of metallic materials on wet clay, seamlessly merging the image into the ceramic piece while focusing on the overlapping 2 dimensional image and the matter.
