TALIA SILVA

Fragments No. 5

$203.00
Exhibition Submission Statement

My work is an exploration of containment, inviting viewers to discover what is held within the boundaries of the frame. I use porcelain off-cuts from larger works, which I shape and detail by carving and poking the surface. Subtly inlaid with a dusty rose color and raised from the surface, these pieces appear to float, their shadows shifting dramatically with the changing daylight.

Through the arrangement of these fragments, I create an illusion of wholeness. This idea reflects our own fragments of self—the multifaceted parts of being human—contained within the human body. My work serves as a reminder that these personal vessels hold infinite mysteries, connecting us to the cosmos and to each other.

About the Artist

Talia Silva is a Toronto-based ceramic artist and designer who explores the expressive potential of surface treatments through hand-built and slip-cast clay forms. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU), where she was introduced to the ceramic studio.

Talia’s explorations in porcelain and stoneware are created to encourage wonder, contemplation, and meaningful connection between object and person. Pensive and often tactile, her objects playfully inquire into our place in the natural world and reflect on the temporal and cyclical nature of being.

She has developed her craft through extensive studio experimentation, specialized workshops with established ceramic artists, and a 2024 residency at the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts. Her pieces have been featured in group exhibitions and juried shows across Ontario, and she received The Gardiner Museum Shop Award (2023).
